Website Migration Planning Checklist Print

  • 0

A reliable migration starts with an inventory and a rollback path. Migration assistance is scoped after review and is not automatically included with every order.

Inventory

  • Website files, databases, software versions, plugins, themes, and scheduled tasks.
  • Mailboxes, aliases, forwarding, mailing lists, and DNS records.
  • Forms, stores, payment integrations, APIs, analytics, redirects, and subdomains.
  • Current host, registrar, DNS, application, and database access.

Sequence

  1. Copy data to the destination without closing the old service.
  2. Test the destination using a temporary URL or local hosts-file mapping.
  3. Verify pages, logins, forms, data, email, SSL, scheduled tasks, and redirects.
  4. Change DNS during the agreed window.
  5. Monitor errors and propagation, then take a final backup.

Keep the old service available until the new environment is verified and the rollback window has passed.
